evan & reid

Two more one year old twins.  These boys are close to one and a half and just two days younger than Slater.  These two boys were fun and challenging (as are all one year olds).  They wanted to just play... not be in anyone's arm or within reach for that matter.  They were very good at playing too.  I loved watching them create their games like flipping the walker toy upside down and pushing it all around.  At one point the ball castle went over the gated area to get out of the way and Evan clued in on that and started dumping any toy close to him overboard.  It was pretty cute and funny. 

Here is a sneak peak of these two sweet boys.  The last one I am posting is not a typical family shot... more artistic if you will.  I did it on purpose believe it or not and something about it, I just love.  So you guys will get it with your collection, like it or not... I do:) So, here are some favorites.  This first one is one of my new all time favs.  Thanks to all four of you for a fun afternoon. 

tilt shift

This week has been really long.  And it doesn't help to have a cold during a firestorm with smoke in the air and heat like it's the middle of August.  We were very fortunate to not be in any danger where we live and I am very thankful for that.  My mom was close and ended up coming to our house just to be safe.  And Tiffany had plans to come into town for an interview and was staying with us too.  That part was fun:)

Tiffany brought her tilt shift lens that I have been dying to try and it was such a cool lens.  A tad impractical for my type of work with mostly wandering toddlers but I am still trying to justify how it can work and add it to my lens kit.  Here are two favorites that I took with it.  We ventured outside for a few minutes on Tuesday when the air didn't seem too bad but we didn't last long.

I love how this lens works with the selective focusing.  The tricky thing is that you have manual focus which is hard with movimg subjects.  But I think with practice you can learn to predict... or just get lucky!

pumpkin carving party

This is the 9th year I have hosted a pumpkin carving party for the neighborhood.  It started as a little halloween party when we first moved into this house 9 years ago and has grown into quite a few more people, moved from my house to the park, and lots of new friends.

I always take pictures of the kids with their newly carved creations and then a giant group picture.  Maybe someday I will make albums for everyone that showcase through the years.  We have some great pictures and since the older boys were only toddlers when we started, there have been some changes. 

So here are a few shots from the event.

 

Matson & Landon

Two cute and very different boys.  These two did not like the my camera too well.  We would get the boys smiling and playing and as soon as I put the camera up, straight faces.  It was really kind of funny.  We still managed to capture a little of each of them as they were on the move.  One to two year olds just kind of do their thing which is what I love about photographing this age. 

I love the one that has bits of both of them in the scene with Landon in the background bending down (the last one).  Shots like that are my favorite twin shots.  It's something about their unique situation of being twins but separate people... if that makes sense at all.  It's crystal clear to me:)

marsi & family

This shoot is with my olden days friend, Marsi (dating back to Jr High!).  I have to say it is very odd to see my friends with their teenage sons.  I only have a few friends with kids THAT old.  But what is strange about seeing my friends teenagers is that I can see both parents in them.  Little kids, you just can't tell who looks like who really.  Anyway, Marsi... Steven looks like you AND Reid.  Go figure:P

Marsi, I have SO many photos that I love from our shoot this past weekend.  I have it narrowed down to 99 favorites:P  I could choose any of them for your sneak peek and they would be my favorites.  So I am showing you a random mix.  And don't worry... there are plenty of your kids smiling but you know how I love the serious look:) I will have these ready for you hopefully in a week.  I hope this little look will tide you over.

william & robert

Such cute boys and so different.  I love that about fraternal twins.  It's so amazing how unique they can look.  You just expect them to look the same but they don't.  These two are nephews of my good friend, Colleen.  I heard all about their birth and their struggles in the nicu because they were small little preemies.  Not now!  These boys are BIG.  I really wasn't expecting that.  Little William fell asleep 2/3rds of the way through the shoot so we ended it a bit early. But I think we still got some great shots of the boys and the whole family.

the maddens

The Maddens are friends/neighbors.  I have been doing a lot of baby and toddler shoots lately.  It was really a fun change of pace to photograph these guys.  We traveled around Little Italy a few blocks looking for fun spots to take some shots.  A storm (or for here, a light wind and some clouds) was rolling in.  It actually makes for really nice, even lighting.  It's amazing how easy it is to photograph kids who aren't toddlers;) Not that I don't love the toddlers and their unawareness of the camera.  I love so many from this shoot.  Here's a sneak peek for you guys.   

cross country

Tucker started middle school this year for 7th.  He joined the track team and is doing cross country running.  The race is a mile and a half once a week against other schools.  It's been really great for him getting settled in a new school where he only knew one other person (his best friend from elementary).  He practices three days a week and is kind of digging it.  He was stoked after the first track meet that he was able to run the whole way.  He was worried.  I knew he could do it... he can run a 7:04 minute mile which he is pretty stoked about.  He has yet to beat my jr high mile of 6:57. 

Today's meet was up by my dad's and so we all went to cheer Tucker on.  I finally remembered my camera and got a few shots of Tucker running and one of my dad and Slater.  .... I don't know what is up with the colors again.  I do everything the same! Arghhh

I think I figured out why the photos do this!  This will be useless information for just about everyone... but if you happen to use lightroom, this is what is going on.  I have yet to test it but I am 98% sure this is it.  When I send the photo to photoshop through the 'photo' menu choice, and then save it in a new folder, the colors do the above.  When I export the photos to a folder and then open them in photoshop from that new folder, they turn out great.  Aren't you so glad you all know that???  So happy I figured it out... but I'm not redoing these photos... well .... no... I  am not:P

tyler & dylan

This is the third time I have photographed these boys (and mom and dad).  I can even tell them apart now.  They are the cutest!  Tyler was not having it at all though.  His look at me from the wagon is so funny.  He either gave me this look or a one eyed wink.  Don't worry Lindsey, we did get a few without the wink.  He was just not going to crack.  These guys are all over my website.  They have such beautiful blue eyes.  Here are a few that caught my eye on my first run through.

 

brooklyn & brinsley

These are from a shoot a month ago or so.  These two were so funny and had such a good time being goofy (which isn't always fun for the parents, but i enjoy it).  They were awesome during the whole shoot and it was over an hour long.  It's so funny to me how younger siblings just want to mimick the older ones at this age.  Brooklyn did everything Brinsley did, or tried anyway.  It was really sweet to watch.
